Currently I am at homebase awaiting a big trip across the country to the East Coast in September. I have returned from my summer trip to the Pacific Northwest. After leaving Seattle I traveled down to Vancouver, Washington and the greater Portland area. I have lots of friends here and had many visits and times of fellowship. I saw Richard Latimer and John Payne both of which I stayed with in Vancouver. I attended church with long-time friends of Glencullen Baptist in Portland. I preached in downtown Portland several times before heading to the Pacific Coast. The heatwave which was to send temperatures in the Portland area to triple digits forced me to the coast about 5 days earlier than anticipated. This allowed me to get some rest and also to preach in a few places I would not have preached in had I continued with my original schedule. I got lots walks on the beach too!

My travels also included stays at other churches. a new church and Pastor I met along the way was found in Tillamook Oregon. it was called Life Changes Christian Church. I rolled in there on a Wednesday just in time to go to the beach and have a barbecue with the workers that were there for Vacation Bible School. I met pastor Brad and he allowed me to park overnight at the church and then I attended a pastor’s prayer meeting in the morning. I also met a couple who knew my cousin, a longtime resident of Tillamook.
Heading south I stayed in Lincoln City at the Foursquare Church where I was able to stay for two nights. Continue reading →
Downtown Minneapolis on May 1st – Late Spring Storm Creates Ghost Town
Just when I thought I was out of the cold & snow I arrived in Minneapolis just to get skunked; no preaching the one day I was there due to snow, wind & heavy rains. I put forth the college try to no avail. I parked at the transit station and took a bus downtown along with my amp. I was prepared to preach with or without it. When I got there it was like a ghost town. The streets were literally empty. I have included a picture and you may notice that down the street there is an enclosed walkway over the street that goes between buildings. Minneapolis has lots of these. I notice the people that were around were using these. I have been here once before in 2013 and these same streets were packed with people.
The next day I was able to preach in St Paul (Twin City to Minneapolis) and had a divine appointment with a young man named Bradley who was ignorant of salvation but listened as I shared the Gospel with him privately. He also took a Gospel. This was really a blessing after 6 orthodox priests in brown robes went by totally ignoring me.
Casey and Shannon – Two different women came upon us at 6th and Yamhill in downtown Portland only a few minutes apart. Although in similar situations, they were different in many ways. Here’s what happened: John Payne was preaching and I was handing out tracts. Casey, the first gal came up and grabbed a new testament off of the display that John had set up. She said she was a believer and when John asked her where she went to church she said she didn’t. He gently challenged her as she began to say what so many people do, and that is; you don’t have to go to church to be a Christian. We continued to discuss this issue with her but she had to run and grab a bite before her lunch hour ended. As she parted John gave her a verse to read, it was Hebrews 13:7 (Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.) A short while later Casey came back, and to our surprise, received John’s exhortation and the scripture reference he gave. She also looked up some other verses on her own concerning attending church. She was convinced this is the course she was to take. She admitted that she had never really read the Bible much for herself before this. Later that evening we prayed for her at a prayer meeting that she would find a church in her area.
Now enter the second woman; Shannon. She had the same objection about attending a local church. We started a similar conversation with her but noticed a stark contrast. Shannon did not seem to yield to the scriptures nor our advice. Rather she wanted to argue and then strangely enough another man came into the picture. He was a homeless man and had many problems, perhaps even had some demonic issues. We’re not quite sure if she knew this man previously, but she offered to give him some money. Anyway she invited him to stick around and listen to us as well. John went back to preaching and this man started to yell and interfere. In the meantime, Shannon wanted to talk to me more about attending church and the different aspects. At this point wisdom told me she had another agenda. She indicated that she liked talking to me more than John. This I figured was nothing more than the enemy trying to divide our unity out there on the street. I prayed for her and then dismissed her. Around the same time the homeless man moved on as well and we went back to our preaching venue.
